(Posted: December 17, 2007) John Dutton, Manager of the team told us about the Spirits 90 girls who ran the Apple Hill run in November as a team. It is basically a fun run to benefit the kids of the Camino Union School District. This is the 4th run they have done as a team. They have run the Susan G Komen race for the cure 2 times and the Cowtown half marathon as 4 person teams last year. This has been a great bonding time for the girls and they always get lots of attention with other runners asking who they run for since they see them as a group.

President Comments after Managers Meeting (Posted: November 11, 2007) We asked Joe Oddo to comment on the discussions that he had with some of the club managers at their last meeting.
Here are some of the questions and answers that he wanted to addresss:
1) What do you think competitive soccer does for our children? I think for the most part it let's our children enjoy playing soccer at a very high level, and helps them develop interpersonal skills. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I see our kids develop through sports and see them walk with some extra confidence that other kids sometimes never get the opportunity to get. I'm proud that our children learn how it feels to lose gracefully and win with humility. Everyone who has played competitive sports realize that there is always going to be someone bigger, better, and faster but that doesn't deter your spirit to challenge yourself to work hard and prepare for each game. These challenges shape our children to stay in the battle because you never know you just might win.
2) Why is playing soccer for San Juan better than any other club? As a general question, I think the answer is very much like what you would get in life, its the quality of the people who coach our children. As with any organization some coaches are better than others however, I feel like our coaches teach fundamentals in our younger brackets and as they mature there taught the nuiances of playing and game strategies very few get to experience at other clubs.
3) What do you do if you have a conflict or problem with your team? Generally , I'd start with the team manager and if need be the coach depending upon the severity of the issue. If it involves the safety of our kids we want to know immediately. General issues around playing time, practice, time commitments, are best resolved with the coach.
4) How can I learn more about the club and understand the issues that face the club? The first Thursday of every month we have a general board meeting held at the pizza hut on greenback and hazel @ 6:30 and you are always welcome to attend. You will be amazed at how many people care and work so hard to keep this club moving forward.

President to Meet Managers

President to meet Team Managers (Posted: October 25, 2007) Our new President Joe Oddo is scheduled to meet the club team managers at their monthy meeting on Tuesday Oct 30th at the Round Table Restaurant located at Madison and Greenback Lanes. The meeting starts at 6:30pm.
Here is a message from Joe Oddo:
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly elected President of the San Juan Soccer Club. My name is Joe Oddo, I have lived in Granite Bay with my wife Peggy for the better part of 14 years and have had two of my daughters go through the soccer program at San Juan.Several people have asked me why in the world would I seek to take on this volunteer position. The answer for me was simple, I wanted to give back to the club that had given me such great family memories around a sport that I have come to love.
The issues that face the premier clubs continue to be the scheduling of fields and the continued effort to mitigate the rising costs of registration, training and tournament fees. Hopefully our efforts will help to resolve both of these issues.
I want to thank all of our parents and children for being part of a great soccer program legacy that continues to grow and prosper.
Sincerely, Joe Oddo
"Go San Juan".
